One Song You Need To Hear: Mammoth WVH - "I'm Alright"
Eddie Van Halen's son: "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..."
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, i.e. Wolfgang Van Halen, yes, son of that Van Halen, Eddie, has got the goods. He’s a smoking guitar player, got hard rock and melodic vocal chops and also played drums and bass - all the instruments - on the debut album from him/his band Mammoth WVH. Genetics and a great work ethic = immense talent and that really shines on both Mammoth WVH albums, but especially the second album, Mammoth II, that came out in August.
I probably listent to more hard rock/metal than most other genres (though as I type this I’m actually listening to Paul McCartney), but the bottom line for me is that a song has to have some melody, a strong hook, and a lot of the time, really drive me, especially at the gym. A hard rock song has to make me hit the weights like a silverback - but with a hook, killer guitar, and cool vocals. “I’m Alright” has all that. And a cool video, too.
Rock on! In the gym, especially!
